Philip Otele marked a milestone in Germany, scoring his first Bundesliga goal during Hamburger SV’s 3–2 loss to Borussia Dortmund, NaijaFooty reports.
The Nigerian winger, recently called up to the national team, made an immediate impact by opening the scoring in the 19th minute with a composed finish past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Since joining Hamburg on loan from Basel, the 26-year-old has quickly adapted, becoming a key attacking threat. Hamburg extended their lead to 2–0 before halftime through Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Despite a strong start, Hamburg faltered in the second half. Ramy Bensebaini converted a penalty following a VAR review, Serhou Guirassy equalized from a rebound, and Bensebaini sealed Dortmund’s comeback with another penalty.
Although the defeat overshadowed Hamburg’s spirited first half, Otele’s performance—especially his debut Bundesliga goal—remains a highlight.
With his club form earning him a national team call-up, Otele looks set to continue his rise both in Germany and for Nigeria.
