The Super Eagles training camp officially opens today in Antalya, Turkey, as preparations commence for this month’s international friendlies against Iran and Jordan, NaijaFooty reports.
Members of the national team’s backroom staff departed Nigeria on Monday as part of an advance delegation tasked with preparing the camp for the players’ arrival. This group included assistant coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, a medical team, and the kit manager. Their primary responsibility was to ensure all logistical arrangements were in place before the squad touched down in Turkey.
With the camp now operational, attention turns to Friday’s friendly against Iran, followed by next Tuesday’s encounter with Jordan. Both matches will be held in Antalya, Turkey. The decision to relocate the games from their original venue in Amman was made due to prevailing security concerns and military conflicts affecting parts of the Middle East.
Notable changes to the squad have been made by head coach Chelle, who excluded key players like Victor Osimhen and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. This signals a strategic shift as he explores fresh options in preparation for future challenges. Other omissions include goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Ryan Alebiosu, midfielders Muhammed Usman, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, and Tochukwu Nnadi, alongside forwards Salim Fago and Cyriel Dessers.
The team welcomes new faces such as Emmanuel Fernandez, Philip Otele, and Collins Yira Sor—reinforcements aimed at enhancing depth and introducing youthful energy to the roster.
Nigeria is set to face Iran on Friday at 4 PM and will play Jordan on Tuesday, March 31, with kickoff scheduled for 8 PM Nigerian time.
