In response, Belgium made strategic substitutions and managed to carve out a few chances through Maxim De Cuyper and Hans Vanaken. However, they failed to breach Iran’s stubborn defence. The match eventually petered out into a scrappy stalemate, with both sides settling for a point.
The result keeps Group G delicately balanced, as all three games so far have ended in draws. Belgium sits on two points heading into their final group game against New Zealand, while Iran prepares for a decisive clash with Egypt as both teams vie for a coveted spot in the knockout stage.
