Saudi Pro League side Al Taawoun have ramped up efforts to secure Nigerian midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin, as the club looks to finalize a move for the Çaykur Rizespor standout ahead of the upcoming season, Naija Footy reports.
The 28-year-old, currently valued at €2.2 million by Transfermarkt, has become a key transfer target as Al Taawoun seeks to strengthen its midfield lineup before the window closes.
Since joining Rizespor in January 2023, Olawoyin has solidified his reputation as one of the Turkish club’s most dependable players. Capable of excelling as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder, or winger, the Nigerian star is under contract until June 2027. His consistent performances in the Turkish Super Lig have significantly boosted his profile.
Olawoyin had another commendable season in 2025/26, appearing in 28 Super Lig matches, with one goal and one assist in over 2,000 minutes of play. His energy, creativity, and adaptability were instrumental in helping Rizespor retain its position in the top tier of Turkish football, further cementing his standing in the league.
To date, Olawoyin has made 122 appearances across all competitions for Rizespor, scoring 19 goals and providing numerous assists. Prior to his move to Turkey, he made a mark at Ankara Keçiörengücü with 12 goals in 51 appearances and also showcased his talent in the Nigeria Premier Football League for Rangers International and Abia Warriors.
Al Taawoun view the €2.2m-rated midfielder as a well-rounded player who can enhance their squad with his technical skills and extensive experience. His ability to operate in various midfield roles, coupled with his exposure to high-intensity football, makes him a compelling option for the Saudi club, which continues to emphasize recruiting seasoned African talents.
Although negotiations are ongoing, Al Taawoun remains hopeful of finalizing an agreement with Rizespor. If completed, the transfer would add another Nigerian star to the growing list of players transitioning to Saudi Arabia, with Olawoyin’s €2.2 million valuation underscoring his rising recognition in European football circles.
