Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has come to the rescue of a struggling Nigeria-based footballer by providing a crucial financial donation aimed at reviving his career, NaijaFooty reports.
The Slavia Prague centre-back contributed two million naira to support Abraham Somtochukwu, a young player grappling with a severe knee injury. For weeks, Somtochukwu had desperately sought assistance through social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, sharing his plight with the public.
Earlier in the year, Somtochukwu sustained an anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury that not only sidelined him from football but also significantly impacted his mobility. As time passed, the lack of surgical intervention worsened his condition, putting his chances of returning to professional football at serious risk.
In his heartfelt plea, Somtochukwu revealed that the injury had already caused him to miss opportunities for international trials, leaving interested clubs and agents waiting indefinitely. While he managed to gather 1.5 million naira through contributions from family, friends, and online supporters, this amount still fell short of covering the cost of the surgery he urgently needed.
The tide turned on Friday, 20 March 2026, when Ogbu came across a fundraising video featuring Somtochukwu’s story. Without hesitation, the Super Eagles defender made a timely donation of two million naira. This act of generosity brought the total funds raised much closer to the required target, reigniting hope that Somtochukwu could soon receive surgery and resume his football journey.
