Onyeka seals permanent Coventry switch after promotion heroics

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has signed a permanent contract with Coventry City, concluding his time at Brentford, Naija Footy reports.

This move comes after playing a pivotal role in Coventry’s successful push for Premier League promotion during his productive loan spell. Both clubs have confirmed the transfer, which solidifies Coventry’s belief in Onyeka’s contributions.

The 28-year-old joined Coventry on loan in the latter half of last season and immediately became a key figure in Frank Lampard’s squad. His dynamism in midfield and considerable Premier League experience were instrumental in helping the club secure the Championship title and their long-anticipated return to top-flight football.

Onyeka initially joined Brentford from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in 2021, making 87 appearances across all competitions. While he found it challenging to cement a consistent starting role in recent years, his dedication and professionalism earned widespread recognition throughout his tenure.

After completing the move, Onyeka expressed his happiness and determination to give his all for Coventry as they gear up for their Premier League campaign. The Nigerian international shared his goals of helping the team establish itself in the division and achieve a commendable finish in the upcoming season.

For Coventry City, securing Onyeka’s signature marks another strategic addition to their squad ahead of their return to the elite stage. His high-level experience is expected to bring composure and strength to their midfield, pivotal as Lampard aims to assemble a squad capable of competing with England’s best.

Beyond benefiting Coventry, this move offers Onyeka a renewed opportunity to rejuvenate his club career while maintaining his relevance in the Super Eagles lineup. After impressing during his loan stint, the Benin City-born midfielder will now look to solidify his role as an integral part of Coventry’s ambitions in what promises to be a challenging Premier League season.
