Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem is reportedly nearing a return to the Turkish Süper Lig, with Konyaspor emerging as his likely destination, Naija Footy reports.
The experienced centre-back is close to reaching an agreement with the Turkish club after Nantes accepted a proposal valued at about €1 million.
The proposed transfer would involve Awaziem signing a two-year contract with Konyaspor, although it has yet to be officially finalized. The 29-year-old is familiar with Turkish football, having previously played for Caykur Rizespor and Alanyaspor, making this move a familiar challenge for the Nigerian international.
In his most recent season with Nantes in France, Awaziem demonstrated he still offers much at the top level. He made 26 appearances in Ligue 1 for Nantes in the 2025/26 season, starting 25 matches, scoring one goal, and providing two assists. He amassed over 2,200 minutes of league play even though Nantes faced a difficult campaign that ended in relegation.
His performances received individual recognition during the season, as he was included in a Ligue 1 Team of the Week following a strong defensive performance against Marseille, highlighting his importance to Nantes despite the club’s struggles.
According to Transfermarkt, Awaziem is currently valued at €2.5 million, following an update in June 2026. This valuation is significantly higher than the reported €1 million fee being discussed for his potential move to Konyaspor, but the final transfer price has yet to be confirmed.
For Konyaspor, Awaziem’s experience could prove valuable as they aim to strengthen their defense, while the move presents the Nigerian with another chance to revitalize his career in a league he knows well. Until the paperwork and medical are completed, however, the transfer remains close but not officially confirmed.
