Nigeria’s Super Falcons continued their preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over Senegal in an international friendly held at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne, on Friday, Naija Footy reports.
Seasoned forward Asisat Oshoala and midfielder Toni Payne were on target for Justine Madugu’s team as the African champions showcased a commanding performance against the Teranga Lionesses in this key warm-up match ahead of the tournament.
Coach Madugu gave goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor her senior team debut, while experienced players like Rasheedat Ajibade, Francisca Ordega, and Christy Ucheibe featured prominently in a strong starting lineup. The Super Falcons immediately asserted dominance by controlling possession and dictating the tempo from the outset.
They created numerous chances early on, with Oshoala and Funmilayo Ijamilusi coming close to scoring before their relentless pressure on Senegal’s defense paid off. The breakthrough came when Nigeria earned a penalty, and Oshoala confidently converted to give her side the lead. Payne later extended the advantage by capitalizing on space inside the penalty box to make it 2-0.
Senegal showed improvement after halftime, pushing to get back into the game. Despite their efforts, Nigeria handled the pressure well and remained in control for most of the second half.
However, in the 86th minute, Sokhna Nogaye pulled one back for Senegal with a long-range strike, reducing the deficit to 2-1. The visitors pushed hard for an equalizer in the dying moments but were unable to find the back of the net again, allowing Nigeria to secure the win.
Both teams are set to meet again on Monday, June 8, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne for the second match of their doubleheader friendly.
