Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have extended a new two-year contract offer to Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho after his previous agreement expired. Talks are underway for his potential return to Parkhead, Naija Footy reports.
The proposed deal reportedly includes a weekly salary of £35,000 and performance-related bonuses up to £780,000. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill confirmed the offer to the former Super Eagles forward, noting ongoing discussions. “There’s an offer on the table, so we’ll see how things develop,” he stated.
O’Neill commended Iheanacho’s efforts during Celtic’s title-winning season, emphasizing the club’s appreciation for his contributions despite a challenging season with injuries. The 28-year-old scored nine goals and assisted once in 24 appearances across all competitions, including key goals in the Scottish Cup semi-final and final, aiding Celtic in securing a domestic double.
Before joining Celtic in September 2025, Iheanacho had successful stints with Manchester City, winning the League Cup; Leicester City, where he claimed the FA Cup and Community Shield; Sevilla in Spain, and Middlesbrough, where he spent the latter half of the 2024/25 season on loan. He has also gained nearly 60 caps for Nigeria, finishing as an Africa Cup of Nations runner-up in 2023.
Throughout his club career, Iheanacho has played in over 390 senior matches, scoring more than 120 goals and providing over 60 assists in all competitions, solidifying his status as one of Nigeria’s top forwards in Europe. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €5 million.
Celtic remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached before the new Scottish Premiership season begins, eager to retain the Nigerian striker’s experience and scoring prowess as they prepare to defend their domestic title and compete in European tournaments.
