Nigerian forward Qudus Suleiman Olarenwaju, widely known as “Messi,” has finalized his transfer to the Portuguese club Centro Desportivo e Cultural de Montalegre, signing a one-year deal for the 2025/26 season, Naija Footy reports.
The versatile left winger joins the Campeonato de Portugal team after making a mark in Portugal’s lower divisions.
Born in Lagos, the attacker has played for several clubs throughout his career, including the U-19 team of Belgian giants Anderlecht, as well as Vila Real, Vila Meã, Barrosas, AD Marco 09, CR Ferreira de Aves, Juventude Pedras Salgadas, Operário Lagoa, and SC Régua before his recent move to Montalegre. He developed his skills at the esteemed 36 Lion football club in Nigeria before moving to Europe in 2016.
Olarenwaju had an impressive season with SC Régua, which paved the way for his new opportunity. He has shown consistent form across Portugal’s regional leagues, amassing over 100 senior appearances and scoring more than 20 goals. This includes six goals in 25 matches for Montalegre during the last season.
Transfermarkt lists the 28-year-old with a market value of €50,000. Known for his pace and creativity, the winger is adept at playing on either flank or as an attacking midfielder.
In an exclusive interview with Naija Footy after his transfer, Olarenwaju shared his excitement about joining Montalegre, stating that this move marks a significant progression in his career.

My goal is to help the club achieve its objectives, score goals, create opportunities, and continually improve as a player.
