Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has revealed that the upcoming 2026 Unity Cup in London will serve as an essential platform for identifying fresh talents and broadening his player pool in preparation for future international competitions, Naija Footy reports.
Nigerian football fans are eagerly anticipating the squad list for the tournament, with players like Owen Oseni, Rafiu Durosinmi, Philip Otele, Samson Tijani, and Tosin Oyedokun considered strong contenders for invitations.
In an interview with TVC News, Chelle acknowledged Nigeria’s abundance of football talent but emphasized that only players aligning with his strategic philosophy and long-term vision would earn a spot on the national team. He noted that it’s impossible to accommodate every player, stating a focus on those capable of contributing to the team’s overarching goal of becoming the best.
Chelle also addressed concerns about the availability of players for the post-Unity Cup friendly matches against Poland and Portugal. He highlighted that many players might need rest after taxing club seasons, and factors like injuries and fatigue could impact the selection process for these European games.
Recently seen scouting talent in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Chelle expressed confidence in the quality of domestic players and confirmed he had finalized most of his choices for the Unity Cup squad announcement.
